Which A-Lister hairstyle should I be copying this new year ?

Glamourous and daring red-carpet celebrity looks are a great source of inspiration for special occasion hairstyles like New Year. Whether you’re planning on dancing away all night long, or spending the night with friends over a quiet dinner, there’s no better time than New Year’s eve to rock an awesome hairstyle. The question is, who’s hair should we be copying to celebrate the New Year ?

Who to copy? If there’s one star who always looks amazing, it has to be Michelle Williams. Beautiful face? Check! Flawless make-up? Check! Hollywood hair? Check! This star is always right on the money when it comes to her style, and there are plenty of ideas you can copy at home from the Shutter Island and Blue Valentine actress. She’s been working a chic bob for just over a year and plays with both her colour and style every time she makes a red-carpet appearance. Sometimes rebellious, sometimes sophisticated, she always has fun with her look. You can get so much inspiration from Miss Williams.

Which style? The hairstyle she wore during the New York Met Gala 2013. The actress stuck to what she knows best : her rebellious spirit mixed with femininity and a ultra-modern hairstyle. She opted for a voluminous bob, adorned with a jewelled headband. Her bob was straight, with backcombed undersections to give her style body. To complete the look, she wore a layered side fringe.

How to re-create the style. Once you’ve washed your hair, part-blow dry your locks upside down to give it volume. Next, make a side parting in your style, on whichever side suits you best. Finish blow drying your hair, making sure to really tame the fringe part of the style to ensure it stays in place. Once your hair is totally dry, backcomb the under sections to give your hair body. The finishing touch is the statement jewelled hairband. Place it in the centre of your hairstyle, à la Michelle. To make your style last all night, spray with hairspray.
