The sporty chic wet-look

Spotted at Giambattista Valli and BCBG Max Azria, this latest wet-look trend plays on a combination of two effects, or textures. This casual and sophisticated style works on long hair to create a bold and vivid contrast.

The idea behind this wet-look style. The wet-look has long been a styling favourite. The idea is simple: slick back your hair using a wet-look styling product. Many of the biggest celebs have been seen sporting this look, which has very swiftly become one of this summer’s most essential styles, particularly for that just-back-from-the-beach effect. This particular style is midway between a slicked-back look and a down-do. You choose whether you want to go for something sophisticated (and more fixed) or laid-back (tousled).

The sophisticated version. Straighten your hair using your straighteners, applying a heat-protector spray to protect your hair from the heat and make it easier to straighten. Once your lengths are smooth and straight, start working on the roots. Using a medium-hold gel, take the hair that frames your face and slick it back. Only apply to the top of your hair, don’t touch your mid-lengths and ends.

The tousled version. No need to get your hair super straight for this version. After washing your hair, towel-dry thoroughly then leave to dry naturally. Scrunch up your hair using your fingers to boost the tousle and add volume! Next, as before, slick back the hair at the roots using a styling gel. Place a small amount of product in your hand first, and then use it to pull your hair back. Guaranteed wet-look effect!
