The cinnamon bun

A simple but by no means casual hair style, the cinnamon bun is great for glamming up any luscious locks and there are many different versions to choose from. Here are just three.

The classic cinnamon bun. Brush and smooth out your hair using a flat brush. Apply a texturizing powder to prep your hair and make it easier to style. Shape your hair to create your bun on whichever lower side you choose. Once your hair is ready, tie it into a low ponytail. Then twist the length of your hair, rolling it around the base of the ponytail. Fix with hair grips and a layer of hairspray.

The plaited cinnamon bun. At Marc Jacobs it’s all about the plaited bun for this spring-summer 2012; plaits have indeed been seen in infinite shapes and forms on a variety of heads so far this season. To create this pretty bun, brush your hair and pull it back. Just like you did for the classic bun, choose to create it on one side of your head, rather than at the nape of your neck. Gather your hair into a ponytail then, instead of twisting it, plait it to the ends. Then roll this plait around your ponytail and secure with hair grips.

Side buns. When we talk about side cinnamon buns, “Star Wars”’ Princess Leia immediately springs to mind. These statement side buns are a very popular choice today. But to wear them as an everyday style, it is best to reduce the volume slightly! Comb your hair into a centre-parting then create two side ponytails towards the bottom of your head. Then, create your bun by twisting and rolling the lengths around the ponytail on both sides. Secure with grips and hairspray and voilà – our very own modern princess!
