Fashion really is just a never-ending revival of old trends. So it’s no surprise that key items of clothing and accessories we know from the past make their way back into our wardrobes every now and then. In the same way, many signature sixties pieces can now be found on the catwalks and on the high street.
 
For Jean-Charles de Castelbajac’s Spring-Summer 2012 catwalk collection, for example, baby-doll dresses and bold colours were the main event. In keeping with this look, hair was styled and accessorised with chunky headbands for a very sixties effect, each one matching the models’ outfits. This combination of sixties clothes and hairstyles was teamed with a make-up technique made famous by twiggy: bold eyeliner and exaggerated lashes.
 
The sixties headband works best on short or mid-length hair. If you have long hair, try a backcombed chignon or victory rolls, also strikingly retro. Once you’ve styled your hair, simply add your headband. Works best when it is as close to your forehead as possible.
