Runway to reality: the pillar-box hat and chignon combo

Dare to wear the pillar-box hat this winter? This quirky accessory was recently spotted on the Carolina Herrera Autumn-Winter 2014-2015 catwalk at New York Fashion Week. Let’s take a closer peek at this innovative, yet chic, look.

The trend. An oversized bun made even more voluminous thanks to extensions. This updo is hidden by a pillar-box hat which is placed neatly on top of the head. This hairstyle instantly opens up the wearer’s face meaning your make-up look can take centre stage. Lips were covered in a dusky pink lipstick whilst eyes were defined with a simple swoosh of eyeliner. In terms of the model’s outfits, the collection was uniform and classic. Several different colors were used, ranging from black to white and even rich burgundy hues. The result is a finished ensemble that is both original and sophisticated.

Who can wear the pillar-box hat and chignon? Anybody who wants to get themselves noticed thanks to a new, quirky accessory whilst remaining elegant at all times. Why not try the pillar-box hat for a more formal occasion to add impact to a simple look? Better still, opt for a colorful version for a wedding invitation to be the belle of the ball.

Get the runway look. Gather your locks at the very top of your head and secure into place with a hair elastic. Next, roll your lengths around the base of the ponytail to create an oversized bun. Make sure everything stays firmly in place with hairspray and keep flyaways at bay. What better way to cement your style status this season?
