Runway to reality: the neon African braid
Original hair colors are big news for summer, with some women even brave enough to try out neon accents in their style. Whether you prefer to wear your locks loose, in a ponytail or even an African braid, any style goes this summer. So, should you be copying this runway-ready look? The pros give their verdict.
The neon African braid spotted on the catwalk. Some top models are well known for their neon hair shade. This is exactly the case for Chloe Norgaard, who has made neon her trademark color. On the Simone Rocha runway (pictured), neon green hair pieces were attached to an African braid style. This look is very on-trend, thanks to a splash of color combined with one of this summer’s most popular styles. If you have long hair, this look is simple to create and oh-so chic.
How to wear day-to-day. Our advice is to keep the hairstyle itself. The African braid may seem complicated to novices, however is simple once you get the hang of the technique. Simply ask your best friend for a helping hand so that you can create a look that will open up your face and highlight your features. In terms of color, you’ll need a strong dose of confidence to pull off the neon touch. If you’re thinking about coloring your hair to achieve this effect, remember that harsh colors can damage your locks and require lots of upkeep.
Create the look. Recreate this look for yourself by using hair chalks or clip-in extensions in bright shades to add a splash of color. Next, you can start braiding your lengths. Take a large section from the very top of your head and separate into three equal sections. Keep two sections in one hand and the third in the other. Start as if you were braiding your hair normally, then incorporate outer sections of hair into your 3 main strands. Repeat this process by crossing your outer sections over the centre piece, and vice versa. Make sure you braid all of your lengths into the braid, then secure with a hair tie of your choice.
