For the ultimate curls, you need perfect structure. But this is sometimes easier said than done. Sometimes your curls struggle to fall into place naturally, or because they slump a little. Here are some tips on how to give them back their bounce.
After washing your hair you tend to apply a styling mousse while it’s still wet to structure your curls. You dry your hair with a diffuser or leave it to dry naturally, and as if by magic: curls! But as the day goes on, and certainly by the next day, your curls have “fallen”. Why?
“As the day goes on, you play with your hair, put on a jumper, take it off. And by the end of the day your curls no longer looks the same as they did earlier. Then, you sleep on your curls at night. And as your scalp transpires and you twist and turn, your curls drop.” There’s not a lot you can do to prevent this, but there are solutions!
Want to restore shape to lifeless curls? First of all, simply try wetting them again. “The must-have accessory for any woman with curly hair is a water spray bottle. This helps you give your curls back their body without having to wash your hair.” For best results, spray water onto your hair then dry using a
hairdryer and diffuser. “Dry the roots then use the diffuser with your head upside down. Try not to scrunch your hair too much to avoid breaking the curls; simply let your hair fall into the diffuser.”
If you don’t think simply wetting your curls is enough, dampen them and apply another helping of
styling mousse to redefine the curls. Now leave your hair to dry naturally or use a hairdryer and diffuser. Finally, if you don’t have time to wet your hair in the shower, why not try bi-phase treatments. “These will lightly dampen your hair to restructure the curl.”
If you have
curling tongs, use them! Not throughout your hair every day, but on a few sections that need touching up.
Our tip: To style curly hair, put down your hairbrush and pick up a wide-toothed comb. Don’t have this styling tool handy? Style your curls using your fingers, being careful not to scrunch or break them.
