Minimal trend: the centre parting

Spring has finally arrived, which means there are new trends on the horizon! For 2014, summer trends are set to be simple and minimal. Your outfit, hair and make-up should be unassuming and pared-back. One of this trend’s key looks is the much-loved centre parting.

The trend. This look is all about going back to basics so don’t be tempted to add any embellishments or accessories. The return to laid-back, simple-chic means that you can now wear elegant, yet easy to create, hairstyles this season. Pastel colours are in and should be worn with simple pieces. Barely there makeup is this season’s new look and looks great combined with a structured, centre-parted hairstyle. So make like the Chloé runway models who have been pros at working this look for several seasons.

Who can wear the centre parting? Anybody who likes symmetry and structure. The good news is that the centre parting is perfect for all hair types. Only women with super-fine hair lacking in volume should stay clear of this look, as the roots can fall flat easily. Similarly, women with rounded faces should avoid the centre parting as it can make cheeks look rounder than they actually are.

How to create the look. Wear your centre parting identical to the styles spotted on the Chloé runway. Each of the catwalk models wore a hairstyle typical of the minimal trend. To create the look, create a centre parting with a comb. Next, allow your hair to dry naturally. Apply a heat-protective spray throughout the lengths, then straighten. The minimal trend looks great with simple, sleek hair.
