Inspiration behind the Dries Van Noten catwalk: gothic romanticism
This season, gothic vibes are seeping their way into the catwalks. This look was even one of the key themes on the Dries Van Noten Autumn-Winter 2014-2015 runway show at Paris Fashion Week. Top off your style with jaw-dropping make-up for a daring and mysterious statement.
The trend. A voluminous faux-bob with a side part. A sweeping front section lies across the forehead and covers one eye for added drama. Hair was worn in an intense chocolate shade that looked uber-glossy. In terms of make-up, models’ complexions were naturally flawless and free from blush. Eyes were the star of the show, with a hypnotic effect that demanded attention. A smoky, ultra-black liner was swept outwards towards the temple. To balance things out, lips were left natural thanks to a nude lip color. Finally, Dries Van Noten’s styles were all about dark sophisticated pieces that you can wear over and over again. Only a subtle pop of orange and gold were used to add a hint of sparkle to this dramatic look.
Who can wear gothic hair? Anybody who is a fan of all things black. This obscure, yet romantic, look is ideal for an evening event when you want to be noticed thanks to its feminine, sultry appeal. Instantly transform yourself into a femme fatale with this gothic-chic look.
Get the runway look. You’ll need to start this look with clean, de-tangled locks. If your hair is naturally very curly or frizzy, begin by straightening out any waves to get a smooth starting point. Next, part your hair to one side using a fine-tooth comb for precision. Take a section of hair that will act as a sweeping front and place over one eye. You can now gather your lengths at the nape of the neck and pin up to get the faux-bob effect. To finish, spray all over evenly with Fix Spray to keep your rebellious look in place.
