How do you successfully create an unstructured ponytail?
Maybe the unstructured ponytail has caught your eye, but you’re not sure how to get that irresistible de-styled look? Here are the secrets to successfully creating this stylish yet rebellious up-do.
1. Texturize your hair
After detangling, apply a salt water spray to your locks with a matt finish, such as Jean Louis David’s Beach Spray. This will give body to the hair fibre. This is the key to successfully adding subtle volume to your locks. Applying this product makes waves in your hair which will be the basis for your floaty hairstyle. Another advantage: a few squirts will allow your hairstyle to hold better. So don’t skip this step!
2. Create a loose up-do
High or mid-height, low-slung or worn to one side, no matter which style you go for, you can personalise your hairstyle in endless ways! It is up to you to decide where you start your up-do. The only prerequisite: don’t overly tighten the hairband around your hair, so as to keep maximum puffiness on top of your head. A detail which is very important for successfully creating your unstructured up-do as it gives your hairstyle the loose look that you’re after.
3. Mess up your ponytail
This does not mean completely undoing and ruining the ponytail, of course. It’s about making it look like your ponytail has been done in a hurry. To do this, take out a strand from the up-do either side of your face to frame it, and pull on other strands at random to create a de-styled look. And there you have it – the perfect unstructured ponytail!
