Hair colouring

Help, my hair colour won't hold!

Share

When you first shampoo your hair after colouring, your new shade can bleed and lose its radiant shine. Laura Superbi, our styling expert, shares her advice to help prevent this from occurring.

More often than not a colour which won't hold is the result of a lack of treatment. However, in the case of home colouring, the problem can often be due to the colouring process. Either the application isn't even, the waiting time is too short or you aren't using the right product for the desired effect. Another reason could be that your hair has already been sensitised by products which are too harsh for your locks or the heat from a heating device. If the cuticles are damaged, logically colour will not hold as well. As a result, it is very important to revive your locks with targeted treatments before colouring.

Have your colour put in by your hairdresser

Entrust the colouring process to a professional for a personalised application and to ensure the right amount of product is used. If your hairdresser thinks your hair will be unable to hold the light brown or brunette you so desire, they will proceed in stages. The principle? To use a pre-colour treatment (a transitional colour), before applying the final shade. With these stages, carried out in one session, the pigments will infuse your hair more effectively.

"The closer your chosen shade is to your hair colour, the easier it will be to apply, preserve and maintain."

Laura Superbi

As for products, your hairdresser will use a formula concentrated in pigments made up of fine molecules. This type of colouring opens the cuticles and deeply penetrates the hair fibre. At Jean Louis David, Inoa by L'Oréal is used. An oil-based ammonia-free product with flawless hold (up to 42 shampoos).

At home, use treatments for coloured hair

Your aim? To keep your hair colour looking radiant and perfect for as long as possible. To achieve this, use a Colour Enhancer, the latest product from the Color Therapy range. With its nutritive pigments, it intensifies your highlights and hydrates your locks. It comes in 3 shades (golden, copper and chocolate) so you can get as close to your hair colour as possible. Once a week, let it soak in for a few minutes into washed and wrung out hair. Rinse it off in clean water. Its effect lasts up to 2 to 3 shampoos.

In the salon, get regular personalised treatments

As a complement to your hair regime, revive your colour in the salon at the same time as getting any touch-ups done on your roots. At Jean Louis David, try out the Color Therapy range, a regime complete with shampoo, a mask and re-pigmentation treatments. How long should you apply it for? Which intensity of product should you use? It is a personalised process and it all depends on your hair's base colour and the desired result.
