Women with straight hair often lack volume at the roots. Luckily this is not incurable! There are a number of ways to create volume. Just follow our advice from the pros.
To get volume at the roots, you need to make sure you have the right haircut. “To get volume at the roots you’ll need layers as your hair needs to be lighter. Flat hair looking for volume needs to be shorter. Without layers, volume will not last. However, don’t go too crazy on the layers as you still need to be able to style your hair easily.”
Unfortunately there are no miracle treatments that will give your hair volume. “The only thing that can give your hair lasting volume is a perm. Only people with straight hair complain of having flat hair. People with curly hair don’t have this issue. So you need to work on the roots with long-lasting techniques. You could also curl your hair slightly for a wavy effect. This will give you a touch of volume.”
Products can be really useful when it comes to styling. “No product can provide long-lasting volume, with the exception of the Volume Therapy protocol. With its three products, this treatment offers support and hold at the roots whilst boosting volume. The foamer, which is part of the range, holds your roots until your next hair wash.”
Our tip: styling products such as mousse or foamer can provide volume as long as they are used correctly. “Apply the product to damp hair then lift the roots using a comb. Give your roots some shape by working on them carefully. For volume at the roots day-to-day, style your hair by trying to achieve its natural movement. Always try to lift the roots.”
