Flat hair when you wake up: how can you give it volume?

Is your hair (seriously) lacking in volume when you wake up? We take a look at three things you can do to reverse the trend.

A film of dry shampoo before going to bed

To get to the root of the problem between hairwashes, spray some dry shampoo at the roots before you go to bed. What’s the idea? To limit the “flat hair” effect when you wake up. Dry shampoo adds texture to the hair fibre and “helps” to lift the hair at the roots due to the movement of your head in your sleep.

A clever hairstyle for sleeping

If you are one of those women who can go to sleep with their hair up, opt for “spider braids” to give volume to flat hair before going to bed. The technique is quick and easy. Start by separating your hair by marking out a middle parting, then a second going from ear to ear to form four braids. Plait the two front sections, braiding close to the scalp to make sure that you get volume at the roots. Repeat this step with the other two back sections. When you wake up, undo the braids and lean your head forward to ruffle your hair slightly and that’s all there is to it!

A suitable styling product for when you wake up

Ideal for those who have a short pixie crop , texturizing powder is your best buddy in the mornings for puffing up your locks. Sprinkle it directly onto your scalp, lifting up a few strands to stop residue settling on your hair’s natural parting. Then, scrunch your locks in your hands to lift your hair at the roots.

A tip from the professionals.

To maximise the effect when the weight of your hair is weighing down your hairstyle, finish off styling with some backcombing . A top tip? Select alternate sections and brush the hair towards the roots using a comb.
