Many people think that brushing your hair every day causes it to fall out. This is not true. In fact, it’s actually good for your hair, as long as you do it regularly and as long as you do it right. Look after your hair with our brushing advice!
For perfectly shiny, healthy and untangled hair, you need to brush your hair twice a day. “Once in the morning and once before going to bed, for about a minute each time.” In terms of material, if you have mid-length, long or thick hair, use a wide, flat brush. If you have short, fine hair, use a thinner brush. There are so many benefits to brushing your hair every day. “Brushing your hair stimulates micro-circulation and therefore relaxes your scalp. It also rids it of any impurities it has accumulated during the day. Brushing your hair is also a way of adding life, volume and shine, as long as you brush it properly.”
Rule number one: never untangle or brush your hair when it’s wet. This will cause your hair to break. If you want to untangle it when you get out of the shower, use a wide-tooth comb. “To untangle your hair without causing any damage, comb gently, starting at the ends. If you pull your hair too hard you could end up snapping it and this is painful! Once the ends are untangled, start combing at the back of your neck.” A great solution for really knotty hair: conditioner. Conditioner is designed specifically to untangle hair. Use it every time you wash your hair.
Is your hair dry now? You can start brushing! Start with your head upside down and brush your hair from the back of your neck, working towards your forehead. Work on the sides before you brush the top of your head. “When you get to the roots, don’t brush too forcefully, otherwise you might set off your sebaceous glands, which will cause your hair to go greasy.” Finish by brushing from top to bottom.
Our tip: To make sure your hairbrush lasts, look after it. Do this by regularly removing all of the hair that gets stuck in the brush. Clean once a month with warm water and a small amount of shampoo.
