2014’s top accessories to protect your hair from the sun
Protecting your hair from the sun is essential once the weather starts heating up. However, we’re pretty sure you’re not about to sacrifice style when it comes to accessorising! This summer, discover the top hair accessories to keep your locks shielded from the hot sunshine.
The turban. It’s been a few years now since the turban made its first appearance on the fashion scene. 2014 is going to be its most successful year yet! Simple to wear with maximum coverage, the turban is a great way to keep your hair shaded for an afternoon at the beach. Thanks to the turban, your hair stays covered from the harsh light and away from sand, sea water and heat. Tie your locks into a chignon and wrap your turban around your head for optimum protection.
The hat. Be vigilant when choosing your beach hat. Stay away from straw types which can be too roomy. In fact, the gaps in the material can allow the sun’s rays to reach your hair and scalp, causing painful burning. This summer, opt for a high-coverage hat, similar to a pastel-coloured felt hat. Our advice is to make sure your hat isn’t pulled down too tightly onto your head, as you may end up with greasy roots!
The cap. We couldn’t leave out this old classic, which is just as suited to women as it is men. Try out a colourful and oversized version to stay on-trend this season. The masculine, androgynous look is big news right now. Before pulling on your cap, create a high ponytail which you can then feed through the vent at the rear. With this accessory, only the roots and scalp area are protected from the sun. Your lengths and ends are therefore, unfortunately, left exposed so don’t forget to use a protective haircare product.
