Pregnancy hair care: top tips

During pregnancy, all women can differ when it comes to hair. However, the vast majority of women tend to notice a significant difference in the quality and condition of their locks thanks to all of those good hormones. So…is there a particular routine you should be following? Which haircare products are best for mums-to-be? The pros reveal all.

Your nine months of pregnancy are often the time when your hair has never looked better! ‘Hair appears more radiant, roots are less greasy and lengths feel fuller and thicker than ever. Hair tends to fall out less and grows much faster. Women who don’t experience this tend to be isolated cases’.

During your pregnancy, don’t worry about needing to avoid certain products. ‘Take care to examine the ingredients used, especially if you aren’t 100% sure how it was formulated. Otherwise, feel free to try out new products…especially nourishing formulas which will only add to your hair’s new-found shine’.

Contrary to popular belief, you can continue coloring your locks! ‘There’s no correlation between your scalp and blood flow, meaning hair colors will not affect the fetus.  Despite this, Jean Louis David stylists tend not to color hair once women have passed the 6th month stage, as the scalp can become more sensitive and even painful for pregnant women during this time’.

Our advice: After your baby is born, prepare yourself for hair fallout. Don’t panic! Head to your doctor who should be able to prescribe some supplements and vitamins to reverse the damage.
