Bride: prepare your hair!

A wedding takes a fair bit of organising. From the venue to the dress, not forgetting the catering and the table decorations, the tiniest detail has to be scrutinised to make the day perfect and unforgettable. And obviously, the same applies to your hair and make-up.

For months beforehand you will have been carrying around your planner so that you don’t forget a single detail. Your beauty regime and especially your hairstyle will appear as high up the list as ordering the champagne and trying on that all-important wedding dress.

Therefore, make an appointment with your hair dresser for a consultation once you’ve chosen your dress, ideally a month before the wedding. This will let you outline your thoughts and ideas on the type of hair-do you want (up or down) and what style (for example, romantic or rock-n-roll). “Don’t hesitate to do some research before your appointment to give your thoughts some direction. For this, flick through fashion magazines to get some inspiration and familiarise yourself with what’s on trend.”

“This first consultation will also help your hair dresser to work out how long you will need for styling (normally between 40 and 60 minutes on average) and to get a quote on the price. That way, you won’t have any nasty surprises on the big day!” Let your hair dresser know if you want to add any accessories, like hair slides, pearls, flowers etc. since they will need to order them in advance.

The same thing goes for any treatments. Do you want a new hair colour for your wedding day or maybe extensions for longer hair? “It’s best to make these adjustments a week in advance of the wedding since such treatments take a bit more time!” And think about washing your hair the day before. Hair that is too clean tends not to hold any styling that well.

Lastly, on the big day, keep a small can of hairspray with you for when you inevitably need to make some adjustments!

Our tip: Your make-up will need to be adapted to your hair style and outfit. Therefore, start by doing your hair before your make-up since some hair styling can ruin aspects of your make-up. Keep eye shadow and lipstick until the last minute!
