What to do with grey hair

Some of you have decided to face up to your grey hair, or even show it off! To learn to live with grey hair, read our tips on how to look after it and make the most of it.

The texture of grey hair is slightly different from the texture of the rest of your hair. “Over time it loses its pigments. And when hair has no more pigments it turns grey.” Some people get their first grey hairs at 25, others at 40. Age has nothing to do with it, it’s more about genetics!

Grey hair tends to be drier and sometimes thicker, finer and frizzier. It varies from person to person. “The hair’s texture doesn’t change just like that, it happens over time. White hair can be difficult to see day-to-day as it blends in with the rest of your hair.” So you can still style your hair in the same way.

Grey hair requires your attention as soon as it represents the majority of your hair. “When only 10 – 15% of your hair is grey, there’s no need to change your hair routine. When this percentage exceeds 60 or 70, however, you’ll need to start thinking differently!”

If it is thick and dry, for example, use hydrating products to make it suppler. “Every now and then you might need to use a shampoo or a brightening treatment to stop it showing undesirable hints of blue… Wash your hair with a shampoo for grey hair once a month.” And use hair products designed for your hair type.

Our tip: After a certain age, short or bob cuts are ideal. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but boyish cuts really enhance grey hair.
