The pros discuss the rockabilly quiff
Originally made popular during the 50s, the rockabilly quiff is now making its way back into this year’s top trends and is perfect for guys who are going for a rock look, similar to Elvis’ signature style.
Your hair needs to be a certain length in order to successfully create the rockabilly quiff. ‘Ideally, hair should come down to around about your nose. Not got mid-length hair? Don’t panic as you can still give this style a try, even if the back and sides are shorter than on top. In fact, this enables you to vary your hairstyle on a day-to-day basis’.
Before styling your rockabilly quiff, you should start by giving it some much needed texture. ‘Begin with damp hair and apply Design Paste which will give your look a rock-inspired finish. Distribute evenly throughout the whole of your hair before you start to style’.
Create your rockabilly quiff by slicking all of your hair forwards towards your forehead. ‘Next, do the exact opposite and comb your entire style backwards. The aim is to boost your hair’s natural volume, creating a voluminous rolled quiff. Keep the sides and back in check with the help of some strong hold gel. During the 50s, men would often create two separate quiffs either side of their main quiff for maximum effect’.
Our tip: To make sure your quiff stays in place all day, your style will require a fair amount of styling gel. Be liberal with the amount you apply, as the wet-look effect is what this iconic hairstyle is all about. Finally, set your quiff with an even layer of hairspray to keep any flyaways at bay.
