The black-tie bun

This is the XXL version of the ballerina bun. Long hair is needed for this one. Try out this up-do for a sharp and sophisticated style without looking too strict. Find out how to get this look, perfect for even the most glamorous of events.

Why choose it? The black-tie bun will give you lots of height, which saves you having to spend the night in painful heels if you don’t want to! Many of the biggest celebs have been sporting this super-trendy and sophisticated style on the summer catwalks. If you’re into more bohemian styles, you might want to try a more laid-back, messy bun instead.

How to get the black-tie bun? Having applied a heat protector spray, use your hair straighteners to straighten your hair. Then pull your hair back into a high ponytail, securing with an elastic hairband. Next, take a bun donut and pull your ponytail through it. Secure the donut using hair pins, then start creating your skyscraper style! Splay your hair out over the donut so that it is no longer visible. Once you start to look like Cousin Itt from the Addam’s Family, slide an elastic hairband over the donut! This is where your chignon starts to take shape. Simply hide the rest of your hair within the chignon, either by securing pieces of hair inside it, or by wrapping your hair around the chignon and securing at the base with pins. Fix the style with a layer of hairspray to make sure your black-tie bun stays in place all day long.
