Men: how to combat dandruff?

Is dandruff and itching making your hair a living nightmare? To get rid of these problems, follow our great anti-dandruff advice.

Define your type of dandruff

This is essential in order to know how to treat it. Dry dandruff is most common and it falls like fine white snow on your shoulders. It is due to:

an abnormal proliferation of pityriasis, a fungus naturally present on your skin.

an overly dry scalp where the skin “cracks” due to a lack of sebum.

the use of certain anti hair loss or styling products: their formulae, rich in alcohol, irritate the peeling scalp. In this particular case, you just need to space out how often you use them or quite simply change treatment. Are you still in doubt? Seek advice from a dermatologist.

If your dandruff stays stuck to the skin on your head and forms slightly yellow scales (plates), it is known as ‘greasy’ dandruff and pityriasis is responsible.

Adapt your anti-dandruff treatments

To get rid of dry dandruff, opt for a shampoo containing juniper (a tree) oil or zinc. These active ingredients restore the scalp’s balance gently due to their anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. If your scalp is too dry, traditional treatments will not work. Instead you should take care of your scalp and above all hydrate it! However, if your dandruff is greasy, opt for a shampoo containing salicylic acid to exfoliate and purify your scalp.

Limit how often you wash your hair

Preferably do not wash your hair every day. Even if it gets rid of dandruff on a daily basis, you will stimulate the scalp and promote cellular regeneration. The result: you aggravate the problem. Wash your hair two to three times a week and let it rest for a few minutes so the active ingredients can react.

Good to know: A scalp scrub once a month is a good ally for combatting dandruff.
