Men: how do you create a side part?

Brought back in fashion by modern-day dandies, with actors like Ryan Gosling leading the way, the side part is making a huge comeback in men’s hairstyles. Here is how to create it in 3 stages to get that on-trend look.

1. Opt for a suitable haircut

This is the main criterion for successfully creating the 2017 version of the side part. Say goodbye to short mainstream haircuts, tamed by stiff styled sides. Instead, go for an undercut which is centred around a well-defined side part shaved in by your hairdresser. This way, the part is showcased and day-to-day styling is easier, making this option a real lifesaver! With longer locks on top and layered sides, shaved sections at the nape of the neck and near the ears, the undercut puts the perfect twist on the side part. This makes it highly on trend. Your hairdresser can also style the contours of the haircut with a razor, creating clear-cut outlines on the hairline to add more structure for a much more modern look.

Is mid-length hair more your thing? Gentlemen, you can also give in to the side part! Provided that you texturize your locks or tie your hair back with a braided hipster part, for example. These styles are way more daring but are just as on trend!

2. Choose your styling products wisely

You cannot get a successful side part without using the appropriate styling wax! Forget wet-look gels and opt for a wax such as Jean Louis David’s Shine Wax instead, which will flatten down your hair to perfection and will add shine for a sophisticated result. With this product, you can fully embrace your new slicked-down locks à la Mad Men! With an undercut, there is no risk of your shiny slicked-back locks looking outdated.

3. Take the time to style your hair

Lastly, and it’s not rocket science: to successfully create a side part you should take the time to style it properly every morning. Start by marking out your side part using a comb, being careful to tame your locks before texturizing them with wax. Then style your hair by spreading out a large amount of the product, strand by strand, which should allow you to easily flatten down your locks. Finally, smooth down your hair with a comb, creating movement at the sides for perfectly slicked-down locks. And there you have it!
