How to style your hair for an interview?

One of the first things your interviewer will notice about you when you arrive for your interview is your appearance. Without going over the top, you need to come off as competent and serious. Here are a few essential rules.

Your hair should be clean. “This really goes without saying! If you have an interview scheduled, wash your hair that morning or the night before. There’s no better way to show someone that you’re well presented and pay attention to detail.”

Your face should be visible. “Don’t try and hide your eyes or your face behind your hair. Your future employer wants to see confidence, and not be wondering what’s hiding behind your hair!”

Your hairstyle should neither be too strict nor too messy. Opt for a hairstyle somewhere between the two. A braided bun is perfect for long and mid-length hair, while people with shorter hair could go for a simple blow-dry. Opt for something chic and casual.

Use products sparingly. “Avoid using too much product! Gels, wax, powders… All of these should be using sparingly to avoid weighing down your hair and leaving your hair looking greasy for your interview.”

Forget accessories. Leave your diamantes, glitter and other fancy headbands at home. You’re going to a job interview not for a weekend away. Your future employer needs to feel that you are a willing, reliable person who knows how to adapt to different situations.
