Do I really need to cut my damaged hair?
Is your hair dull, tired-looking and prone to breakages? You’re not sure what else you can do other than go for the chop. Thanks to our pros’ advice, you can now determine whether an appointment with your stylist is really necessary or not.
Everything depends on where exactly your hair is damaged. “If you have split ends, you’re better off getting them trimmed immediately as the hair fibers have become separated and will never return to their normal self. On the other hand, if your ends are just dry, you can deeply nourish them with anti-split ends serums and make an appointment for every 3 months to see your stylist and keep on top of split ends. This minimal trim will instantly boost your tired looking style”.
If it’s your lengths that are damaged, there are a few good products out there which will repair the damage. “You hair can become damaged naturally due to pollution levels, chemical treatments you may be using or simply too much friction. But don’t panic! There are several great products which act deep down to reinvigorate the hair shaft; keratin-enriched formulas and thick masks should do the trick”.
Our advice: Not sure whether your hair is damaged or not? Simply pull out a single hair from your scalp (just one!) and gently pull on both ends with your fingertips. This will enable you to judge your hair’s elasticity, which is a sign of good health. Another top tip is to check how easy your hair is to de-tangle after washing. If you struggle to get the comb through your lengths, it’s a sign the hair is damaged and more sensitive. Head straight to your stylist who will be able to advise you on the best course of action.
