Did you know: a hair lives between 4 to 7 years?

As a general rule, there are normally between 75,000 and 150,000 hairs on your head! But, did you know that each hair lasts no longer than 10 years?

A hair’s life is split into 3 distinct periods. Firstly comes the anagen phase which can last between 4-7 years. This is the time when your hair tends to grow at around one centimeter every month. Three quarters of your hair is grown during this stage. Next comes the catagen phase where the hair begins to relax and stops growing for around 3 weeks. This is directly followed by the telogen phase. The hair follicles remain inactive for 3 months which is when the hair comes to the end of its life span. You may recognize this stage by the hair that falls out when brushing. Luckily, Mother Nature has your back as the cycle repeats itself continuously, starting again with the anagen phase. Throughout your life, the amount of hair produced by the scalp can reach up to 1,000km, over 20 times!

Now that you understand the life cycle of a hair, you may be wondering how to grow your hair faster. If your dream hair is super-long lengths, there are several things to consider such as the season, your age, your overall well-being and good old genetics. What’s more, using specifically designed products for your individual hair type will encourage hair to grow quicker. Similarly, make sure to protect your hair from external aggressions to keep hair healthy and strong. Finishing on an interesting anecdote, did you know that the record for the longest hair in the world is currently held by Chinese woman Xie Quiping whose hair measures an impressive 5.62 meters long?
