Rich in simple sugars, vitamins and minerals, coconut oil is renowned for nourishing and protecting the skin. So, what does it do for your hair?
Of all the plant oils, coconut oil is considered to be one of the most effective due to its rapid penetration. Rich in lauric acid, (similar to the proteins naturally present in hair), it helps nourish, it can deeply repair your locks, prevent the hair fibre from breaking and split ends from forming.
Besides its addictive scent, this oil is a key ingredient contained in hair products due to its anti-bacterial properties. Applied to the scalp, it can purify, soothe itching and reduce the production of dandruff.
By freeing the scalp of dandruff which suffocates it, coconut oil facilitates the oxygenation of the cells and allows hair to grow more easily. Once applied to the roots (let it soak in for 20 minutes), finish off the treatment by massaging your scalp to stimulate blood circulation, essential for promoting quicker hair growth.
Coconut, castor, argan... Although these plant oils all have the advantage of making detangling easier, coconut oil pips all of them to the post due to the speed of its penetration which is extremely useful if you have thick hair. One drawback, however, is that it is particularly difficult to rinse off when applied in its pure form. This means that it is preferable to opt for products containing it, such as conditioners, as they are easier to use.
