Wash your hair the right way

Choosing the right shampoo for your hair type is essential. But knowing how to use it is important as well. To optimize the effects of your shampoo, here’s some advice from the pros.

Choosing the right shampoo means choosing a shampoo that is suitable for your hair type. Hydrating treatments for dry hair, protector products for coloured hair or even volumising shampoo for limp hair. The shampoo you choose will also depend on your hair routine. “You can wash your hair every day as long as you use a soft, frequent-use shampoo.” Also, remember to check the formula. “At Jean Louis David, most of our shampoos are silicone-free to ensure the hair stays healthy. The cleansing base is a light foam, which is gentle on the scalp and deeply cleansing.”

Apply shampoo to wet hair, preferably with cool water. Squeeze a small amount of shampoo into your hands and apply it evenly throughout the hair. Jeff Causse advises “if you wash your hair every day, you might want to mix the shampoo with water to thin it out slightly. This will stop the shampoo from weighing down the roots.” Next, massage the shampoo into your hair and scalp and lather. Leave in for 2 to 3 minutes then rinse out from the root to the ends. “Once you’ve finished rinsing, your hair should squeak between your fingers!”

Our tip: To seal the cuticles and smooth the hair’s fibres for sleek and shiny hair, finish rinsing with a burst of cold water (or tepid if you’re not feeling brave enough!). This will also help moderate the production of sebum, the substance that causes greasy hair.
