Thinking about getting your colour done before heading for sunnier shores?

You’re right, the sun can sometimes cause coloured hair to fade or turn, but there’s no reason why you shouldn’t treat yourself to a colour before heading away. Here’s some advice to keep your colour looking its best all summer!

Here at Jean Louis David, we like to give you what you want. You name your colour, we will do it! “You can also have your colour done before heading to the beach or away to the sun, even if you only decide the day before! However, to make sure the sun doesn’t cause it to fade or turn too soon, make sure you look after it”. In summer, due to the chlorine, sand, sea salt and sun, you obviously wash your hair more often than usual. “In summer you should wash your hair every day, with products that are suitable for coloured hair”. This will make your colour last longer and stop it fading at the first glimpse of sunlight!

There are several options to choose from when it comes to colour. First of all, there is semi-permanent colour. This solution is perfect if you want to try out a new look for your fortnight away. “But don’t expect it to last any longer. Semi-permanent colours fade gradually every time you wash your hair. So the more you wash it, the faster it will fade.”

Another piece of advice: choose your colour carefully. If you are going darker than usual, choose one shade up as the colour tends to lighten. “The same applies if you decide to go lighter. Opt for a gentler lightening effect than usual as the sun will amplify it”.

Our tip: Lighter colouring tends to be stronger at the ends, so why not anticipate this by opting for the latest colouring trend, the dip dye. You darker roots and lighter ends will develop nicely once you are stretched out on your sun lounger, margarita in hand…
