The pro's verdict on the buzz cut for guys

Buzz cuts may seem a little out dated for 2014. However, some men prefer this shorter look to the mid-length styles on offer this season. For this cut, hair is cut into a square shape and only the edges should be slightly rounded.

The buzz cut needs to be sharp and precise. ‘Every hair should be in its right place. The effect is a geometric style which looks clean and smart. There are a couple of different versions of the buzz cut available. Popular ones include having short back and sides with more length on top, a 50s-inspired look or short all-over to create a military-esque vibe’.

This style is a simple way to have your hair cut, however one which enables lots of different styling opportunities. ‘Ideally, your hair should be straight without any kinks. Yet this cut can be created with other hair types too. It’s the structure of the style that is important, not the texture. Curly hair can also by tamed with a buzz cut. Each hair type will simply require its own type of grooming and upkeep each day, however the basics remain the same’.

It’s not essential to have a specific hair type for this look. ‘If you hair has kinks all over, it will be more difficult to create, but this will be the only downside to your style. The pros outweigh the cons!’

Our tip: Tempted by the buzz cut but not sure whether it will suit you? Don’t worry. Haircuts aren’t permanent and your style will grow out soon enough.
