Japanese layering, a new hair care technique?

Layering is a new Japanese skin care ritual. This beauty routine involves applying different products from your bathroom cupboard, one after the other. The aim: brighter, more supple skin. There now exists a version of this ritual for hair.

Japanese layering. This new beauty routine consists of six stages, starting with an oil make-up remover and face massage. The skin is then rinsed and cleansed with soap and water. Next, a lotion is applied to soften the skin. Then (in this order) a serum formulated for the right skin type is applied along with an eye contour product. Finally, a moisturising day or night cream is used to intensely nourish the skin.

Japanese layering for hair. Though it doesn’t involve the same products, the principle is almost identical. Start by nourishing your hair, particularly the lengths, using an oil. Then massage to allow the product to soak in and activate your scalp’s micro-circulation. Next wash your hair with a shampoo designed for your hair type. If you feel that the oil is stopping the shampoo from taking effect, wash your hair a second time. Then comes the conditioner, which is used solely to untangle the mid-lengths and ends. Apply mainly to these areas, untangling your hair with your fingers as you go along. Rinse with warm water. Now we move on to styling. Start by drying your hair, then select the styling product you need to create your style. When you’re finished, use hairspray to keep the style in place as long as possible.

To use or not to use? Why not create your own hair beauty ritual! You don’t necessarily have to use oil as a pre-treatment, as it rinses out when you wash your hair. Its effects are therefore washed out too… It is best used on wet hair which is then left to dry. No need to rinse it out. Another stage that you could add: the use of a mask designed for your hair type. Only masks are able to deeply nourish your hair, unlike conditioner, which serves simply to untangle it.
