How to use leave-in treatments?

Leave-in treatments have become essential hair products. Used alongside your normal hair routine or to rescue your hair when you’re pressed for time, these products have gradually made their way into our bathroom cabinets. To get the most out of them, follow our advice.

Leave-in treatments come in the form of a spray or a cream. “At Jean Louis David, we call our leave-in products dual-phase sprays. They are applied to the hair, section by section, and then hair is combed through to make sure the product is distributed evenly. Leave-in creams are first poured into the hands and then applied throughout the hair. Comb through to make sure it is distributed evenly.” The spray is the more ideal of the two as it is suitable for all hair types, while creams can end up weighing hair down, which is a problem particularly for finer hair.

These treatments should preferably be applied to damp, towel-dried hair. “Firstly, to make it easier to distribute them, and also because these treatments help with styling. Leave-in treatments start to work as soon as they start to heat up. This is the case especially with the Keratin Therapy heat active spray, which will start to work once the hair is dry.”

These treatments are also good for untangling hair, which is a real plus if you tend to have quite knotty hair. “If you have time, wash your hair using shampoo, then a treatment, then follow with a leave-in treatment. If you’re in a rush, simply washing with shampoo and following with a leave-in treatment will give your hair a real boost to untangle your hair and making it easier to style.”

Our tip: Avoid using leave-in treatments on dry hair as a touch-up. This will just leave your hair wet. You need to make sure you have a hair dryer available to dry your hair and activate the effects of your treatment. Not very practical...
