How much hair product should I be using?

Does your shampoo and conditioner always run out in no time at all? Not sure you know how much of each product you should be using? Well, you aren’t the only one! If there’s one thing you should take into consideration when it comes to hair products, it’s the length and thickness of your hair that’s important. Here’s a quick guide to the essential hair care tips you should be using.
When shampooing your hair, don’t think ‘how dirty is my hair?’ as this really doesn’t matter. ‘Take a nut sized amount of shampoo for the first, lighter step of your hair wash. To make sure that the shampoo works as well as possible it needs to foam. Next, rinse the majority of the shampoo out of your hair. The next step is to shampoo your hair for the second time, and if your hair needs it, a third. The last wash shouldn’t require much product at all to create a rich lather. It’s better to do several light washes than one single wash which wastes lots of hair product and doesn’t really clean your hair properly’.
A large dollop of shampoo isn’t always effective. ‘People ask me what is the most important element of shampooing hair, and I always tell them that the hair needs to be soaked through, not just damp. This allows the shampoo to take better hold of dirt, and lather better’.
The first shampoo should concentrate mainly on the roots, contrary to what many people may think. ‘When shampooing hair for the first wash, there’s no need to wash the lengths and ends. Your hair will be just as clean if you allow the soap to clean the ends itself and you’ll save money too!
In general, conditioner is used to detangle hair and make it nice and shiny. ‘Conditioner softens the hair. If you’re going to use conditioner, never apply it to the roots, as this makes hair difficult to style and becomes greasier quicker. In fact, your hair will be lacking in natural texture and body, which makes it go flat. Only apply conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends of your hair to keep it in good condition’.
Our tip: Much like your everyday conditioner, hair masks should never be applied to the root of the hair, unless you are using a volumising hair mask. For all other masks, applying it to the mid-lengths and ends will suffice, and will make your hair super shiny whilst hydrating it.
