How can I get my natural hair colour back after colouring?

You have always coloured your hair… But for a while, you’ve been wanting to rediscover your natural colour. Find out our expert’s advice on how to remove your colour whilst preserving your hair’s health.

How can you remove a colour after temporary colouring?

“If you have opted for a temporary or semi-permanent colouring technique, it will disappear with time. As a general rule, there will be no trace of your colour after 5 to 8 weeks. And if, despite waiting this amount of time, you still have a base colour with a few resistant highlights, then visit your salon. Your hairdresser will carry out a cleansing process which will remove any pigments left in your hair. You will then be able to get your natural colour back 100%.”

“Temporary hair colours are designed to gradually wash out.”

I don’t want my permanent hair colouring anymore, how can I get rid of it?

“As its name indicates, permanent colouring is permanent. To apply permanent colouring, your hairdresser must bleach your hair, before introducing pigments deep into the hair fibre. Therefore, you cannot get your natural colour back. The only solution is to let your hair grow out at the roots. Another option: cut your hair gradually as it grows, so the coloured parts disappear.”

“However, there are techniques you can use to help you get through this transition period. If you chose a light hair colour (blond to light brown), your hairdresser can colour your hair a shade similar to your base colour. When your roots grown out, there will no longer be the ‘roots effect’. For the same reasons, you can also get a Contrast treatment . Finally, if you coloured your hair a dark colour (light brown to black), your hairdresser will cleanse your hair, before applying a temporary colouring. This will reduce the contrast between your hair colour and your roots”.
