Hair beauty: things to avoid
Hair beauty: things to avoid

Hair beauty: things to avoid

It’s always nice to have shiny, healthy hair. You apply treatments, you visit your hairdresser... But there are certain daily habits that see your best intentions go out of the window... Here are some beauty habits to ban from your hair routine.

Washing your hair with the wrong products. If you have fine hair but use shampoo designed for dry hair, it’s time to call in the experts... “It’s important to know your hair type in order to choose the right shampoos, masks and other products. If you’re unsure, ask your hairdresser.”

Not rinsing your hair properly. Rinsing your hair thoroughly takes time, and even longer if you have long hair. “There is no set time, you should know when your hair is fully rinsed. How can you be sure? Your hair should squeak between your fingers.” Don’t overdo it on the warm water as you rinse each section of your hair!

Towel-drying your hair. When you get out of the shower with dripping wet hair, it’s very tempting to rub it with a towel to get rid of the excess water (we’ve all done it at least once...). But it’s time to forget it. “This habit will damage your hair. Rather than rubbing, leave your hair in a towel for ten minutes or so, blotting gently.”

Never brushing your hair. Obviously brushing your hair too often and too forcefully is not recommended. It’s all about finding a balance! “Brush it twice a day, morning and evening, for a minute at a time. This will get rid of the day’s impurities and help blood circulation.”

Overusing styling tools. And on wet hair. “To stop these tools damaging your hair, use them on dry hair and apply heat protector sprays beforehand in order to protect your hair from the heat of your straighteners or curling tongs.” Those with fine hair should also avoid using such tools every day to prevent further damage.

Constantly running your hands through your hair. You do it without even realising. Readjusting a piece of hair, pulling your hair back... There is any number of excuses. But running your hands through your hair will make it greasy. “Tie it up instead!”

Our tip: No matter how well you look after your hair or how many treatments you use, you still need to visit your hairdresser every so often. Especially to get rid of split ends! Split ends are unattractive and can damage your lovely hair. How often? Every 3 months.
