Brown hair: how do I go blond (without damaging my hair)?

That's it, you've decided you are soon going to trade in your brown hair for luminous blond hair. But before taking the plunge, our expert will give you their advice on this type of colouring. So, is it a good or bad idea?

Choose a specialised technique

Going from brunette to blond requires both a professional and personalised treatment. "When you lighten your hair, go up to a maximum of three tones lighter than your base colour. This is the only golden rule to follow to keep your hair in good health. At Jean Louis David, we offer several lightening services which preserve the vitality of your hair whilst boosting its shine."

"If you go more than 3 tones lighter, you will definitely sensitize your hair."

Vanessa Giani

First of all, there is the 3-in-1 technique. "To achieve this, we carry out permanent colouring which we combine with a 2-in-1 treatment . Whist the colouring sinks in, we will make your hair an additional tone lighter. It is then rinsed and dried. Finally, we carry out the Contrast treatment on your ends so they get lighter. The result? Progressive lightening which gives a very natural finish to your colour."

"Our main objective is to not damage your hair".

You can also opt for the Sunlight treatment . "This technique will make your hair lighter and give it an immediate 'sun-kissed effect'. You will have honey or light brown highlights which are both luminous and blond. These tones will complement your hair as they are quite close to your initial colour. However, keep in mind that a 3-in-1 or a Sunlight treatment will never give the same look as when you bleach your hair to go fully blond".

Beware of bleaching!

If you are determined to go blond from the roots to the tips, you should opt for successive bleaching. "This will inevitably sensitize your hair. Also, such a transformation can prove to be complicated and costly to maintain. In fact, you should meticulously look after your hair, so it still looks good over time."

Our advice: take a step back from current trends or fleeting desires. Colouring your hair from brown to blond isn't a decision to be taken lightly! And above all, always consult your hairdresser.
