Look: colours made for brunettes

When buying a piece of clothing, the only question you ask yourself is whether or not you like it. And when you try it on, the only thing you think about is how it makes your figure look. But do you know how to choose the right colours?

Clothes. Brunettes have a certain advantage over blondes. They can pull off shorter, lower-cut outfits without looking tarty, the general stereotype being that blondes are the more promiscuous of the two!

Trying out different colours. Before just going for any old colour, try out a few different ones. Your hair colour is not the only criteria that should be considered. Your skin tone and eye colour also need to be taken into account. To avoid any fashion faux-pas, hold the garment under your chin and look in the mirror. If you think the colour brightens up your complexion and looks good on you, it’s a yes! If not, it will only bring out your imperfections. Put that garment right back where you found it.

Fair skin. If you have dark hair but a porcelain complexion, avoid accentuating this contrast with colours that are too light. Stay away from pastels and whites. Instead go for black, green (bottle or khaki), red (even burgundy) or electric blue. These darker colours will enhance your fair skin.

Darker skin tones. If you have darker skin you’ve got more choice. You can try pretty much everything, except beiges and browns. Otherwise, whatever tickles your fancy. Dark, autumnal shades work well, as do lighter, brighter shades. One thing to avoid though is wearing all black. You don’t want to look too formal. Black jeans are fine but have a bit of fun with the rest of your outfit.
