Top tips for getting the most out of your shampoo

Shampooing your locks is an essential part of your haircare routine, allowing you to wash away all of the dirt and impurities that build up through the week. Discover our pro’s top tips to mastering the art of shampooing and get your locks looking fabulous.

There are several different steps required to get the most out of your shampoo. ‘Firstly, you should ensure your hair is completely soaked with water. Next, apply your product to the root area and distribute evenly down to the tips. It’s always better to use a small amount of shampoo and wash your hair twice rather than use a large amount and not get an effective clean. Lather your shampoo by massaging your scalp with your fingertips in a circular motion. This will dislodge any grease or stubborn dirt. As soon as your shampoo starts to foam, leave for a couple of minutes, then rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear.

The next couple of steps are essential to getting the most out of your hair washing routine. ‘Apply a conditioner or a nourishing mask to deeply hydrate your mid-lengths and ends. Leave for 5-10 minutes then rinse again at a cooler temperature. Although these steps aren’t completely necessary, they will certainly add shine and make your hair easier to manage’.

Our advice: Always have two different shampoos on the go, alternating between the two. This will prevent your hair from getting used to a certain formula and ensure your products perform well. Opt for shampoos which suit your individual hair type. For example, choose a shampoo for dry hair one day, and alternate with a shampoo for fine hair the next. Avoid using shampoos which target your hair color as these are not guaranteed to match your shade and tone 100%.
