This summer’s must-have look: the twisted braid

The summer season is the perfect time to discover new ways of tying up your locks. In fact, the heat and humidity leave us feeling much less inclined to wear hair loose and straightened. For summer 2014, why not try the twisted braid?

Often spotted on the runway, this fancy do is rarely worn on the streets by everyday women. However, the twisted braid is oh-so simple to create. This look requires long hair, as the effect will not be as pristine and polished on shorter styles such as a bob. However, women with mid-length hair can give this style a go. This elegant hairstyle is extremely practical for summer as it keeps hair away from the neck, which is perfect for when temperatures start to rise.

To create the twisted braid, gather all of your hair towards the rear of your head, securing with bungee bands. The ponytail should sit fairly high up. Once your hair is secured into a ponytail, separate into two equal sections. Next, twist the two sections around each other right down to the ends of your locks to create the twisted effect. Your twists should be fairly tight so that the result lasts all day long. Give your style extra staying-power by applying a strong-hold styling product on the lengths and ends. Once you have finished twisting, secure at the ends with another hair tie. Spray evenly with hairspray for the perfect finish.
