The Pros: the layered cut for fine hair

Tempted to go for a layered cut but not sure if your fine hair will work with this style? Our pro gives her top tips and advice to opting for layers this season.

A layered style is generally not recommended for those with fine hair, but you can give it a go. ‘Firstly, your hair will need to be at least mid-length if you’re going to try out this look. Afterwards, everything depends on the thickness of your hair. If you have lots of hair, you can certainly give layers a go. On the other hand, if you have fine hair, and not lots of it, avoid this style at all costs, or simply layer the very ends. This technique will remove bulk from your ends and could render your style unbalanced’.

Some shorter hairstyles can create more volume for fine hair and they are perfect! ‘These styles will instantly create the impression of more volume and body. Without being layered, hair looks thicker and fuller. Make sure you select a hairstyle which is thicker around the mid lengths and at the rear of the head. Next, your stylist will add subtle layers around the front and on top to create movement’.

Our advice: If you’re absolutely desperate to try out layers, combine this with products from the Volume Therapy range at home which have been designed specifically for fine hair. Once applied, they swell the hair shaft making it appear thicker and fuller than ever.
