The pros discuss the messed-up chignon

Don’t miss out on the chignon of the season! This incredible look was spotted on the Marchesa Autumn-Winter 2014-2015 runway show at New York Fashion Week. Thanks to our expert knowledge, discover all the tips and tricks to nail this off-duty style.

The messed-up chignon shouldn’t simply be considered a daytime hairstyle. ‘It’s perfect for evening looks too. Got a swanky evening do planned next week? Pair a look-at-me LBD with this hairstyle for an oh-so elegant effect. When wearing this messy bun, the rest of your outfit needs to be on top form, including make-up, choice of dress and selecting the right accessories. Mixing two different styles is a great way of experimenting and discovering something new that works’.

Here all are the key elements you’ll need to get the most out of this messy hairstyle. ‘The most important thing to remember is to refrain from prepping your hair before creating your chignon. You want to keep the natural texture of your own hair, so leave the straighteners alone! Next, backcomb your roots by gently tugging a fine tooth comb in the opposite direction to which your hair grows. Gather your locks at the rear of your head and secure into a chignon. Make sure everything stays in place with an even layer of hairspray, followed by Shine Spray for a glossy finish’.

Our advice: If your hair is fine, sprinkle some Texture Powder into the roots before backcombing. This miracle product will instantly add more volume and body to your hair, making it easier to style.
