The Man Braid: the new on-trend men's hairstyle

A trend started off by the Pharaohs, Gauls and Vikings and subsequently worn by hipsters and regularly used to tame afros, the braid is both a women’s and men’s hairstyle. We take a closer look at the 2017 version of the man braid.

How should it be worn?

Forget the hippie feel of the 70s, the 2017 version is much more understated and can be used to boost hairstyles such as the undercut. This asymmetrical haircut, shaved on both sides and at the nape of the neck, leaves some length on top which is perfectly suited to the man braid.

Several styling options

Put in a central braid or several braids to gather your locks towards the back and keep the hair out of your face. If your hair is long, put in a few braids at the front of the hairstyle and gather up the rest of your hair into a man bun by coiling your hair around itself. Try out various hairstyles by putting in braids diagonally, at the sides or even by plaiting your whole head of hair for a more daring look. A top tip from the professionals. To hold your man braid in place opt for transparent hairbands, or black for a manly look.

The type of braid

Opt for the classic three strand braid, African braids or cornrows. However, rule out the fishtail braid which is more suited to women’s hairstyles.
