The low, braided chignon: 2014 edition

Thanks to the low braided chignon, you can open up the nape of your neck and create an elegant, simple look. This feminine hairstyle always ensures a chic finish, whatever the occasion. Read on to find out how to create this effortless style.

The low braided chignon. This neo-romantic chignon is perfect for those in search of a bohemian look. Simple to create, you simply need to braid hair as normal and use bobby pins to create the same effect spotted on the Dolce & Gabbana runway (pictured). The only thing you need for this look is long hair. Shorter lengths will struggle to pull off this look.

Which occasions are best suited to the low braided chignon? The best thing about this style is that it is perfect for almost any occasion imaginable! Got a brunch planned with friends this weekend? Opt for the bohemian version which features loose strands escaping your chignon. If you have an important business meeting to attend, opt for a cleaner, neater version. You can even wear this hairstyle for a wedding reception. You can’t go wrong with this style!

Get the look. After washing hair, create a centre parting. Keep your parting fairly neat, then pull all of your hair towards the rear of your head and secure into a low ponytail. Braid the lengths and secure at the ends with another hair tie. Next, roll your braid upwards on itself up to the base of your ponytail and pin into place with bobby pins. You can tease out a few sections to frame your face, depending on the look you’re going for.
