The hair-band…as you’ve never seen it before

You may think you know all about the headband, however this version is a different take on an old classic. Let us present to you the hair-band, made with your own locks! This style is perfect for those of you wanting to spice up your look with a dash of originality this season.

Regardless of whether you style yours with an accessory or a simple strand of your own hair, you must keep in mind that your strand should lie flat, neatly on top of the head. ‘Although the rest of your hairstyle doesn’t need to be poker straight, this upper section certainly needs to be smooth and look groomed. You may need to use the straighteners to relax your natural hair’.

You don’t need long hair to try out this trend. ‘The main thing is that the upper strand used to create the hair-band is straight. You can create this look on short hair, however your hair-band may not fully reach the opposite side of your head’.

Creating your very own hair-band couldn’t be simpler. ‘Using a fine-tooth comb, separate a section running from one ear to the opposite of about 7- 8cm in width. Smooth over to the side of your choice, then secure with hairspray or gel to hold in place’.

Our advice: Once you’ve created your new hair-band, move on to styling the rest of your hair. It’s important to create volume at the rear so that you can play with different textures. Try out a retro chignon by backcombing the crown section for added volume.
