The backcombed roots chignon spotted on the Emporio Armani runway

Want to find out how you can update your updos this season? Look no further than this stylish chignon with backcombed roots and a voluminous front section. This technique is ideal for adding body and character to your style.

The Emporio Armani fashion house featured backcombed roots all over its Spring-Summer 2015 runway show at Milan Fashion Week, focusing on the roots to add a rounded shape and create volume. The rest of the models’ hair was secured into a low-slung chignon. This look is great paired with a loose-fitting, boho outfit or even a more bodycon version. Combine with your everyday ensemble to add a classic and sophisticated feel. In terms of make-up, electric blue eyeshadow created a bold statement. Opt for an iridescent formula to brighten up your eye socket and keep things looking modern.

Want to recreate this look for yourself? Start by sectioning off the front part of your hair. Start near the back and backcomb the roots, working your way forwards to your forehead. To do this, hold your strand above your head by the ends, then drag your comb down the hair shaft to the roots. Next, spray a touch of hairspray into the root, then release. After you’ve finished backcombing, gently brush all of your hair backwards and secure into a loose chignon. One of the main advantages of this style is that you can play with different textures. You can decide to backcomb simply the front section, or all over if you prefer for a high-octane finish. We’re loving this baby-doll, rock-n-roll inspired look!
