The asymmetric fringe to put a punk twist on short haircuts

Share

For Autumn-Winter 2017/2018, Jean Louis David is playing with asymmetrical fringes to give character to short haircuts. We take a closer look at this rock 'n' punk trend.

The fringe cutting technique

Are you looking to give a rock chick look to your short haircut? After the curtain fringe, rounded or layered bangs, now it's time for the asymmetrical fringe. To create this look, Jean Louis David's hairdressers will mark out a fringe which starts halfway down your forehead, goes up slightly in a clear-cut curve as far as the centre of your forehead and then drops back down to cover one eyebrow. These rebellious bangs are perfect for giving you a punk look! It is quite a short fringe and is unstructured, contrasting with the perfectly defined long sideburns, for a short haircut with maximum style.

Different ways to style it

Texturized on slicked-back hair - the fringe is straightened beforehand by blow-drying it with a flat brush and smoothing each section down from the roots down to the tips. Then it is held in place with Design Spray, a texturizing styling product which adds body and volume to straightened hair, to contrast with the slicked-back sections of the hairstyle. This will create a dual-texture look which is highly on trend this season.

Ultra-sleek - the fringe is styled, like the rest of the hair, using Liss Therapy Smoothing Mist. This treatment used before you blow-dry helps to keep straightened hair looking sleek and acts as a varnish on the hair fibre to add shine. Perfectly smooth, glossy hair will showcase the asymmetrical fringe's character. All you need do is rock it with confidence!

Styled with a quiff - the fringe is styled and side-swept with a side part. It is then swept back with the hairdryer and held in place with Fix Ultime extra hold hairspray to form and hold the quiff in place. This is the key to getting that masculine-feminine tomboy style.

De-styled to the max - the asymmetrical fringe goes all-out punk. Texturized using a duo of styling products, it is styled along with the rest of the hair. First using Shine Wax, a styling wax which adds shine to your hair. Then with Texture Powder, a volumizing powder which, sprinkled at the roots, gives body to your locks. It is then shaped at random by ruffling your hair up with your hands to give it that de-styled punk look.
