Techniques for crimping hair

There has been a distinct 80s feel to this season’s catwalk shows. We’re predicting that the 80s style is going to be big news for both fashion and hair this Autumn-Winter. So, is this the perfect moment to try out crimping your locks? Why not!

Big, voluminous hair was all over this season’s catwalks. “The hard part is the length of time it takes to crimp long hair, and crimping it correctly. Even with a crimping iron, it’s difficult to nail the technique”.

Firstly, you’ll need to decide how much frizz you want to create. “You should know that if you want to create small neat crimped sections, you’ll need to create tight crimped patterns and use small sections. It can be very time-consuming! The quickest method by far is still using a heated crimping iron. Other techniques can take forever and require a studio full of stylists, rather than just you in your bedroom! Be realistic”.

Don’t own a crimper? “You can create a similar effect by curling your hair tightly, then brushing out to create the frizz-factor. Don’t forget to use mousse before styling, which will help your end-result last much longer. Once you’ve finished crimping, spray all over with hairspray. To get rid of crimped hair, you’ll need a wide tooth comb, and a lot of patience”.

Our advice: Go all-out 80s and rock a bandana. This will help to keep your crimped hair in place and out of your face.
