Spotted at Fashion Week: the return of the zig-zag hairband

Once an iconic accessory from the 90s, the zig-zag headband is back with a bang this season, after being spotted on the Barbara Bui Spring-Summer 2015 runway show at Paris Fashion Week. So, is this throwback accessory a hit or a miss? Let’s find out!

The trend. Hair was worn loose and swept backwards, with a high-shine finish thanks to some gel applied sparingly at the roots. As for the lengths, models had straight locks which tumbled down their backs. The defining feature of this look is, without a doubt, the zig-zag headband. This signature accessory will keep your style in place whilst creating a retro feel. Push yours back slightly to create a super-sleek finish.

Get the look. You can wear this style with loose hair, regardless of its texture. Place your accessory at the front of the head to show off statement volume locks. Or, push your headband backwards to open up your face and keep things looking neat. Pair this accessory with simple, natural make-up. In terms of your outfit, take some direct inspiration from the runway and select sophisticated pieces in dark tones. A pop of color or a subtle pattern wouldn’t go amiss, however!

Step-by-step tutorial. Start by washing your hair with Hydration and Suppleness shampoo from the Oil Therapy range. Your aim should be to smooth down any flyaways! Dry as normal then straighten, section by section for added precision. Gather towards the rear with a brush, then apply a small amount of Design Gel to the roots at the front. You can now slide your headband into place and style how you prefer.
