Jean Paul Gaultier has once again been stretching the limits of the fashion world by selecting catwalk models covered in tattoos and piercings for a very burlesque-influenced collection. The pin-up models of the 40s are back! Shapely figures, eyeliner and sculpted hairstyles were all present. The slicked back victory rolls look has us all intrigued. Here’s more about it!
 


Victory rolls. This signature pin-up hairstyle was all the rage in the 40s. This vintage hair idea has been brought into the here and now with the return of the burlesque style. The hairstyle requires a basic amount of skill, but after a few attempts you’ll be pulling this style into place like a professional! This style works not only on long hair, but on mid-length hair as well. The rolls will be smaller in volume, but will still look fab!


How to create victory rolls. Start by applying a styling mousse to give your hair a bit of body and oomph. For best results, apply to wet hair for a longer hold. Create a centre or side-parting, and then take out sections of hair from the rest of your hair. As a reference point, use the hair from the front, surrounding your face, to behind your ears. Tie the rest of your hair out of the way, then holding it in the air, backcomb using a comb. Next, pull your hair back and roll the ends around your thumb to get the roll. Do the same on your mid-lengths then fix in place with hair grips once you’re happy with your roll. Spray a generous amount of hairspray then repeat on the other side of your head.


And the rest of my hair? Once you’ve created your two rolls, you will need to style the hair that you tied out of the way. You choose whether you’d rather leave your hair down or tie it up. For the first option, why not insert some waves, a lot prettier than straightened hair. For the second option, the choices are endless: messy chignon, twisted chignon, ponytail, horizontal French twist… Simply find something that suits your style!
