Relaxed-chic: the cool-girl chignon

Unlike the more structured classic chignon, autumn-Winter 2014-2015’s take on this updo is much more relaxed and laid-back. Its nonchalant feel is perfect for completing any sports-luxe outfit, creating a rock-n-roll feel as well as turning the heads of passers-by. This trend is certainly one to watch for the near future!

The relaxed cool-girl chignon. Women tend to associate chignons with severe-looking updos that lack creativity. Well, think again as next season’s take on the classic is getting a ‘cool’ overhaul. The cool-girl chignon is ideal for those of you with busy lives who are always on the run and who aren’t afraid to swap your office heels for a more comfy pair of sneakers now and again.

Why wear the cool-girl chignon? The cool-girl chignon will instantly add a certain je-ne-sais-quoi to your outfit thanks to its mussed-up vibe. Situated at the base of the neck, it’s a lot easier to style than the topknot. What’s more, you can decide to accessorize yours with a headband or even style it to one side; just some of the alternatives we’ve spotted on the catwalks. Tempted yet?

Get the runway look, step by step. Give your locks some texture by spraying dry shampoo into the roots to add volume. Next, gather your hair towards the nape of the neck, without dragging or pulling too hard on the scalp as the front of your chignon should be fairly loose. Attach your lengths into a low-slung ponytail, taking one strand and wrapping it around the hair tie to conceal your handiwork. Next, pin up your chignon using bobby pins. Don’t worry if a few strands escape, as this will only add to your finished look. Complete your style with an even layer of Shine Spray to give your updo a glossy finish, then spray with hairspray to keep in place.
