Men: maintaining your hair colour

Gentlemen, do you wish to colour your hair or do you just want to try out highlights? Find out how colouring your locks will change your hair regime before taking the plunge!

Regular trips to the salon

Once you have your hair coloured (only by a professional for a skilled application), you will have to get occasional touch-ups on your hair to maintain it and to colour the roots. As a result plan to visit your colourist every month or every month and a half to manage regrowth and to avoid the unsightly ‘obvious roots’ effect with distinct demarcations.

Good to know: if you have mid-length hair and you do not go regularly to the hairdresser, you should get into the swing of visiting the salon more often. If you have short hair, you are probably used to frequent visits so it won’t be difficult to jump at the chance to go.

Specific post-colouring treatments …

To preserve your colour’s radiant shine at home and to ensure your locks are adequately nourished, go for shampoos and masks with formulas specifically targeted at coloured hair, such as those from the Color Therapy range which help to fix pigments to the hair fibre. It is those pigments which will allow you to show off an intense radiant colour in between salon visits as if you had just come from the hairdresser.

…and anti-yellowing products for blonds

If you have gone for highlights or you have decided to go blond, you should know your locks could develop yellow-orange highlights. The solution? Regular use of a purple shampoo as a way of preventing hair from going this colour or use it as a correction treatment if your shade has already been altered.

Finally, you can also colour your beard if you want to try out a completely different look.
